With support from the California Arts Council, TheatreWorks will expand the reach of our series of live in-school assemblies, serving 20% more underrepresented schools with complimentary performances. This annual touring program for K-5 audiences features the teachings of Oskar and his friends, who are portrayed by professional adult actors in fully staged productions. The assemblies use humor to address difficult subjects such as bullying, stress management and gender stereotypes.
Our three core programs include mainstage productions, arts engagement programming, and new works development. We present a six-play season that contains a mix of reinvigorated classics, contemporary hits, and new works which entertain, educate, and challenge our constituents. Our New Works Initiative has developed over 200 new plays and musicals. Our education programs expose the next generation to the magic of theatre and empower their voices though playwriting programs. Our programs even extend beyond the classroom, impacting hospitalized students and their families at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, and engaging students throughout the summer.
