With support from the California Arts Council, the Young Americans will partner with the Alternative, Community, and Correctional Education Schools and Services (ACCESS) Department within the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) to provide a 15-week performing arts program for ACCESS students who are incarcerated.
The Young Americans has three strategic program pillars. All programs are centered around our core values:
*We uphold Respect
*We expect Accountability/Responsibility
*We foster Collaboration
*We cultivate Diversity/Global View
*We value Mentorship
*We celebrate Joy
Performances: The Young Americans Performances feature two main shows each year in Southern California, ShowStoppers and The Magic of Christmas. The Magic of Christmas is also a fundraiser for the organization. ShowStoppers runs during the Spring and is a show that celebrates all forms of music and dance. Since 1978, the Boyne Highlands Resort in Northern Michigan, has been the summer home for The Young Americans Dinner Theatre. A new dinner theatre opened two years ago in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
Performing Arts Workshops: Performing Arts Workshops bring interactive arts education, using music as the tool, to students in grades two through twelve. Students participate for three days in school-based Workshops or five days in Summer Camps. The Young Americans partner with local schools and community based organizations and are invited to enhance school curricula by providing a fun, supportive, and interactive experience where participating students will gain self-confidence through learning new performance skills and build leadership, communications, and team-building capacity by working together on a performance. The Young Americans also seeks to support each student’s academic and cognitive skills through improved critical thinking and decision-making as a result of participation in these Workshops and Camps.
Young Americans College of the Performing Arts: The Young Americans College of the Performing Arts is an accredited conservatory-style program of study for students wishing to combine intensive performing arts training with service-based learning experiences that broaden understanding of the global community. 100 Associate of Arts degrees awarded each year. The College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACCJC/WASC).
