Project Description

The Writers Grotto is a community of working writers, narrative artists, and creative storytellers committed to providing affordable, communal space in the San Francisco Bay Area for creatives to seriously pursue their work, to connect, to pool our talents to support each other, to mentor and teach others, and to engage the wider world. Founded in 1994, we have a roster of more than one hundred professionals, including journalists and novelists, podcasters and poets, comedians and filmmakers, playwrights and publishers. Members have written New York Times bestsellers, feature films, and television series, and have won everything from Pushcarts to Pulitzers.

The Grotto fosters a literary and artistic culture generous in spirit and deeply inclusive, elevating writers of all backgrounds. Through the work of its members, fellows, and students, the Writers Grotto expands the audience for meaningful storytelling—from poetry to journalism to film and more—and amplifies seldom-heard voices.
