MoAD, a contemporary art museum, celebrates Black cultures, ignites challenging conversations, and inspires learning through the global lens of the African Diaspora. Situated in the heart of San Francisco’s Yerba Buena arts district, MoAD, is one of the few museums focused exclusively on the African Diaspora. Now in its thirteenth year, MoAD’s growing audiences and educational impact are testament to its dedication to building a community that inspires, educates, and connects people of all ages and backgrounds.
With the Museum’s opening only 13 years ago, these trends were under way and there was an understanding that the Museum had a mandate to educate: a need to ensure that the spirit, nature and purpose of art by artists of African descent remained within the City of San Francisco itself living and serving a purpose and to support communities across the region.
