MUCID will (1) raise more money from institutional donors, (2) maintain our Berkeley studio to ensure we can return to in person instruction when it is safe to do so, and (3) expand collaboration with other local and international dance and culture organizations.
MUCID offers instruction and performance in culturally specific dance, music and material arts with an emphasis on the traditions of Hawaiʻi, Tahiti, North India, Persia and Southern Africa. MUCID’s dancers have performed across the country and the world. MUCID also produces the Kapili Polynesian Dance and Music Workshops, which has been recognized by the Alliance for California Traditional Arts. Kapili attracts students from as far away as Virginia to study with master teachers from the Bay Area, Hawai’i, and Tahiti..
In addition, MUCIDʻs goal is to facilitate an environment conducive to intercultural and intergenerational engagement. It stands as a community center
