Dance Brigade was founded in 1984. In 1998 it began to run Dance Mission Theater located on the corner of 24th and Mission Streets, and has served San Francisco’s historically Latinx Mission District and the Greater Bay Area ever since.
A community anchor, Dance Brigade (commonly referred to as Dance Mission) inspires and empowers diverse Bay Area communities and artists through dance and dance theater, including the production of new works, instruction, and performance. We are an artist-driven, feminist organization rooted in intersectionality, dedicated to building community, addressing social justice issues, exploring cultural identities, promoting inclusivity and fairness, and creating a more peaceful world through collective action. Many women artists, artists of color, and culturally specific ensembles have made Dance Mission Theater their artistic home, creating a vibrant inter-generational community.
