Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Teatro Nagual will increase the number and effectiveness of key personnel, grow our governance by engaging a consulting organization to develop our board with the intent of becoming our own non-profit, and increase capacity and outreach through a new website along with marketing and publicity strategies and finally develop business plans to strengthen our already proven programs for the Latinx community we serve ensuring complete access for all.

Organization Summary

We have created a number of mobile theatre sketches to inform the public of, environmental justice challenges in their communities. A group of writers are partnering with local bi-lingual talent and administrative personnel to bring these mobile experiences into the community ensuring access to all.
One latest programs is a mobile comedic sketch focusing on environmental justice (EJ) and local inequities. During the height of the pandemic, we created many virtual, video on-demand programming including the filming of this sketch. In partnership with United Latinos, we continue to write informational “actos” for the community. Additionally, we changed our play on immigration to virtual. This allowed much more accessibility for our audiences. We grew our presence as teaching artists along with Sacramento County Office of Education providing arts for high risk, marginalized scholars impacted by the virus. Our mission and vision expanded to mentor more Latino teaching artists. Our pillars are – Quality Theatrical Programing, Mobile Social Justice Theatre, and growing the next generation of teaching artists.
