Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, “Shifting Shores” will provide children in four schools with an experience of the coastal environment from multiple perspectives: ecological relationships, Wiyot cultural practices, expressive movement, and video documentation. The project will take place over four sessions in each school.

Organization Summary

Synapsis members work to bring new and experimental performance to Northern California, while cultivating work that is pertinent to a wider discourse about performance, art, and the nature of being. Aerial dance, contemporary dance, physical theater, performance art, acrobatics, improvisation, lighting design, and music are among our practices. We create cabarets featuring new performance, host community celebrations, teach classes in dance and theatre, and offer programs that bring art and performance practices to community members who may not otherwise have access. Some of our 16+ years of programming has included: experimental film/video events, traditional music rehearsals, punk shows, art exhibitions, a street festival, a fringe theater festival, full length aerial dance theater shows, artist residencies, puppet festivals, dance parties, kids’ camps, benefits for local organizations, and community meetings. The Synapsis collective is a DreamMaker Project of the Ink People.
