Mission: Connection through music: Music is a catalyst for human connection.
Purpose: Street Symphony’s programs serve to (1) Engage communities directly affected by homelessness and incarceration in LA County through performances, workshops and teaching artistry, (2) Create spaces for communities affected by homelessness and incarceration to share stories, deepen relationships, and illuminate our humanity through transformative musical experiences and (3) Create pathways for professional and emerging musicians in to cultivate citizen artistry: to show up, build relationships, and connect with the communities served through Street Symphony’s programs and partnerships.
Vision: Street Symphony envisions the end of apathy, and a world where every person, and their story, matters.
Principles: In our programs, we believe that cultural exchange occurs when we move beyond outreach (shallow, unilateral, one-off experiences), into engagement (deep, relational and reciprocal).
