With support from the California Arts Council, Starting Arts Inc will partner with Horace Cureton Elementary School in the Alum Rock Union School District to launch a Theatre Artist-in-Residence program for students in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 5th grade for the 2020-2021 academic year. The artist-in-residence will collaborate with each grade level classroom teacher to develop and implement theatre curricula that will be integrated with the language arts programs.
Starting Arts provides school arts education in 4 disciplines – dance, music, theatre and visual arts to nearly 40,000 K-12 students in 125 schools. Classes are taught by professional artists eager to share their knowledge and passion with students.
Core Programs
•Rotating Arts Wheel. Instruction is provided 1-2 times a week in dance, theatre, music and visual arts. Schedule, duration and chosen disciplines are tailored to fit a school’s population & budget
•Before- and After-School Arts Enrichment. Classes meet for 10- 12 weeks, culminating in a show or exhibition
•Dream Team provides intensive “triple threat” training designed for serious students ready to take their training to the next level
•Summer Camps. Produce 3 musicals for students ages 5-8, 9-18, and 18-21, as well as 1-week Intensives in Dance, Music & Tech
•Professional Staff Development to school staff for grades K-8 and “ready to teach” lesson plans. Materials adhere to California Visual and Performing Arts Standards
