Project Description

“With support from the California Arts Council, STAR ARTS EDUCATION will “Follow the Seasons” with virtual/live events, beginning with Fall cultural workshops using storytelling, digital media and podcasting to record and share stories on-line and onstage. Writing & Performing Workshop Series will culminate with an event titled: “Our Ancestors Stories”.

Organization Summary

STAR Arts Programs “Follow the Seasons in 2021” offering a year of virtual, hybrid or (when allowed) face to face events. Including: Seasonal themed Cultural workshops, events, live theater, musical performances, digital media, film, video and podcasting. STAR 2021 workshops feature all cultures include: Power to Poetry Workshops in celebration of Black History highlighting Black poets, music & women in the arts. Planned for 2021 workshops: Celebrating Shakespeare, Asian-Pacific Islanders Dance & Stories, STAR Arts Summer Actors Workshop Production, Film & Video Production, Fall Musical, Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) “Ofrendas & Sugar Skull masks & make-up, “Remembering our Ancestors” story share. These sessions culminate with a “Star Showcase” when STAR Kids showcase their creations and share stories of their Ancestors. The event will honor the culture of honoring those that have passed. In December STAR will create a Black Box Theater event and fundraiser “In the Spirit of Giving.” This is an example of how we continue to engage and support the diverse communities in Gilroy. STAR Arts Core Theatre workshop programs for youth 7 to 17 include “how to audition, improvisation fundamentals, storytelling, theater makeup, costume, scenery design. We reach out to our target audience reaching out and targeting social media, build our website outreach and create a pathway to STAR Arts. The STAR Arts Digital Media Video, Audio, Podcast is an essential core program. It introduces youth to becoming the next generation of content creators: producers, directors, actors, designers and editors. They learn hands on, the process to pre-production, production, production and distribution. The STAR Way method of learning is designed to teach our youth creative communication, collaboration and decision-making skills to create content, to build self confidence that will change the world.
