With support from the California Arts Council, San Pedro City Ballet will continue to provide dance education to underserved elementary school students throughout the Greater Los Angeles area through our DancEd Steps Up programing, including 368 instructional hours over 20 weeks culminating in a showcase highlighting each students’ progress.
The Nutcracker: A classic Holiday ballet is produced annually. Cast is comprised of professional dancers, community leaders, Board members, volunteers, our Company members, and Firebird Dance Program students. Free tickets are distributed to homeless and domestic violence shelters, as well as underserved elementary and middle schools, so that all families and students, regardless of income, have the chance to watch a live performance.
Firebird Dance Program: Firebird Dance Program (formerly DancEd Steps Up) provides comprehensive dance education, instruction, exercise, and lectures (History of Dance & Careers, Good Nutritional Habits, Team Building & Social Justice, etc.) to over 7,000 public school students annually throughout the San Pedro/Harbor and Greater Los Angeles areas. In-school lessons are conducted twice weekly for approximately ten weeks, after-school classes are ongoing, and additional students are served through school assemblies with dance workshops and performances.
