Project Description

With the support from the California Arts Council, SDDT will use the funds to support emerging choreographers across the county. The program’s design will encourage, nurture, and mentor dance artists using choreography to illuminate cultural styles, create expression of uniqueness, and a multicultural pride focusing on social justice.

Outreach programs, offering community arts programming to underserved middle and high school students and seniors.
Our newest program funded by CAC is collaborating with San Diego Youth Services, working with foster and unsheltered youths.
Space grants and subsidized rehearsal/performance space for up-and-coming artists
Arts job training and internships, including a fruitful work study program

Past leadership of the company has expanded access to training and performances for dancers of many nationalities, races, ages and physical abilities. San Diego Dance Theater is known for cross-border projects, summer workshops, intergenerational and Aging Creatively classes (dance for seniors), and annual performance events: Emerging Choreographers Showcase & Awards (awarding new regional talent, 12 years), the Live Arts Fest supporting 11 unique dance artists (9 years), and the public’s favorite: Trolley Dances (26 years).
