With support from the California Arts Council, Safe Return Project will research, develop, and facilitate arts-and healing- based workshops for formerly incarcerated youth. Workshops will center on the right to heal, using music, art, media, and bike rides to process the trauma that is so often compounded in juvenile incarceration.
The Safe Return Project’s core programs and services include the Richard Boyd Fellowship, which recruits and empowers formerly incarcerated people to grow organizing skills, the Collective Impact Leadership Institute, which builds leadership skills among the same population, and the Local Organizing Committee, where community members apply political organizing skills towards mass liberation for individuals directly impacted by the criminal legal system.
