With support from the California Arts Council, RYSE INC will launch four cohorts of a Freedom Beats (formerly Hip Hop Heals) curriculum to support the personal growth, expression, and healing of 40 young men ages 13-17 committed by Juvenile Court. Participatory workshops will be led and facilitated by RYSE staff and arts contractors who specialize in hip hop history, media and recording arts production, healing facilitation, poetry, and spoken word.
Youth participate in programming that includes direct services, intensive case management and wrap-around services; education and career advancement supports; leadership, organizing and advocacy; media, arts and culture; and health and wellness education. Young people access RYSE through multiple points of entry and engagement (drop-in, structured, individual, group, center-wide, referrals from schools, probation, etc.), which allows for an inviting and welcoming environment that meets them where they’re at.
