With support from the California Arts Council, Pasadena Educational Foundation will provide arts classes for youth ages 6 to 18 during the summer. A variety of classes in visual arts, music, dance, theater and
media arts led by artists, credentials arts teachers, and staff of local arts organizations will take place 4 days a week for 5 weeks at five Pasadena Unified School District campuses. Students will develop artistic
abilities and cultural awareness through sequential, hands-on activities.
PEF leverages the resources of the community – funding, volunteers, and partnerships with a variety of nonprofit organizations, government agencies and businesses – to support the academic, cultural, health, and social needs of PUSD students, teachers, staff and parents. PEF also responds to specific needs in PUSD by developing, incubating and implementing projects in collaboration with PUSD and a network of community partners, including:
-My Masterpieces: Discovering Art in My Community, a sequential journey through nine of Pasadena’s remarkable cultural organizations for all 8,000+ PUSD students in grades K-6.
-Robotics, a hands-on program in all PUSD middle schools that encourages creativity and innovation.
-App Academy, a four-year, college- and career-oriented pathway in computer science at Pasadena High School.
-Math Academy, a radically accelerated program for mathematically gifted students in grades 6-12;
-Programs that give voice and agency to students, including the Student Think Tank and Building Empathy;
-The Summer Enrichment Program, the subject of this application.
