Project Description

Founded in 1952, ONE Archives Foundation (OAF) is the oldest continuously operating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) organization in the nation, and an important resource for showcasing the trailblazing and diverse history and culture of the LGBTQ community. Honoring this rich heritage, OAF provides programs for students, educators, and the public, in order to support inclusive learning environments and provide gateways to learn about the LGBTQ community’s full contributions to society. ONE Archives Foundation works with a partnered LGBTQ archive and community organizations to present and support projects, exhibitions, and education programs to preserve, protect, and share LGBTQ history, art, and culture.

OAF’s mission is to tell stories that connect history and contemporary culture to effect social change today, to cultivate the personal and communal courage found in LGBTQ history to empower the contemporary queer experience, and to promote social justice, equity and equality for all. Our vision is to be an activist cultural institution and leading producer of historical and contemporary LGBTQ stories reaching broad audiences through media, exhibitions, symposiums, publications, outreach and educational programs. Our purpose is to make the lived history, contemporary experience and humanity of the LGBTQ community an integral part of the greater social whole.
