With support from the California Arts Council, OJAI FESTIVALS, LTD will present Education Through Music, a comprehensive 32-week early music education program serving 3,500 K-3rd grade students in all of the public elementary schools in the Ojai Valley.
The Ojai community is well known for valuing arts and music events, as well as education. The Ojai Music Festival has two main branches of programming:
THE OJAI MUSIC FESTIVAL
The annual Ojai Music Festival is a creative laboratory for emerging and established artists to pursue new directions that would not be possible in a traditional concert environment. For four days each June, the entire city of Ojai becomes the stage for innovative symphonic and chamber music, jazz, world music, opera, and a series of lectures and discussions. Additionally, over 30,000 people worldwide view Ojai Music Festival concerts through free live streaming. The annual Festival is also an important community resource and it brings over 8,000 visitors to Ojai, filling hotels and restaurants, and providing a huge boost to the local economy.
BRAVO
The Ojai Music Festival’s BRAVO education and community outreach programs serve the residents of the Ojai Valley throughout the year. BRAVO brings a range of free, high-quality musical experiences to seniors and approximately 3,500 students in Ventura County annually.
The Ojai Music Festival is the largest provider of music education in the Ojai Valley. Our Education Through Music (ETM) program, for example, teaches very young children to express themselves by making music collaboratively. This 32-week arts education program serves all K-3rd grade students in 26 classrooms in the Ojai Unified School District, and 8 classrooms in an elementary school in neighboring Oak View. Our ETM program is the subject of this proposal.
