The purpose of New Performance Traditions (formerly Musical Traditions/Paul Dresher Ensemble) is to provide contemporary performing artists, the facilities, tools, resources, and expertise necessary for the creation, production, performance, and dissemination – through recording and broadcast – of new performing artworks. To promote the social welfare of our community and recognizing that all new artistic creation is inspired by and based on an understanding of traditions, we support both the preservation and celebration of traditional forms and the creation of new works that challenge the boundaries within and between art forms and new works that challenge existing societal assumptions about culture, history, gender, race, and equality. In addition to dance, theater, music, and performance disciplines, we also support multidisciplinary artists and projects that may also include the work of literary, visual, and media artists. We support artists by providing: affordable access to both short and long term rehearsal studio and production facilities; below-market-cost rental or loan of professional equipment and technologies used in creation, performance, and recording of performances; residency programs that provide free access to facilities and equipment necessary for the development of new performing artworks; educational programs, training and mentorship for aspiring and early career artists; and fiscal sponsorships for artists and projects that match our artistic goals and available resources.
