The School of Performing Arts and Cultural Education (SPACE) is an acclaimed after-school performing arts program serving youth ages infant to 24. SPACE’s mission is to “empower youth to discover and trust in their innate ability to be creative, responsible, and compassionate individuals through effective training in dance, theater, music, and cultural education.” Starting with 200 students and a budget of $70,000 in 1995, SPACE has since served over 15,000 students, infant to teen, with an annual budget of approximately $550,000. Through excellent instruction, attention to the socio-emotional context of families, teen leadership opportunities, and programming that speaks boldly to justice issues, SPACE creates outstanding art while nurturing leaders inspired to catalyze positive social change.
