MashUp Contemporary Dance Company’s mission is to uplift female-identifying artists and build community through dance. Prioritizing innovation, collaboration, and inclusion, MashUp works to increase opportunity for and visibility of female-identifying artists, spark conversation around intersectional feminist ideas, democratize the creative process, cultivate cross-disciplinary collaborative relationships, and provide accessible opportunities for broad audiences to engage with dance.
Founded in 2010 by Sarah Rodenhouse and Victoria Brown to address an opportunity gap for women in LA dance, MashUp’s vision is to continue to grow as a space for female-identifying artists (including trans woman, as well as as non-binary individuals who identify with feminism) to receive support and opportunity; as a community of female-identifying artists and allies who exemplify powerful, inspirational leadership through dance and the arts; and as a place of connection where people from different sectors, disciplines, styles, backgrounds, and life experiences can celebrate and participate in the wealth of thought and creativity that female-identifying artists bring.
