With support from the California Arts Council, Mainly Mozart will provide high-quality musical education to its 275-member Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra with a commitment to integrating special needs students into core programs. Mainly Mozart provides musical instruction, leadership training, performance opportunities, tuition assistance, scholarships, binational goodwill programs, and disability advocacy to youth ages 3-23 from throughout Southern California.
Mainly Mozart (MM) produces thoughtfully curated experiences designed to tell the story of genius in its varied faces. Concerts performed by world-class artists countywide capture the spirit of Mozart and the great masters of Western Music. MM has become a force for innovation, social good, and community impact through:
1. Live performance – MM is committed to core classical programming distinguished by intelligent curation, brilliant performance, and innovative delivery. Performances include an annual Festival with the acclaimed Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra as well as chamber and other more intimate concerts.
2. Educating the next generation of musicians through the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra (MMYO). MMYO is the only youth orchestra in California to actively recruit and integrate students with cognitive and physical differences into core ensembles.
3. Spearheading innovation through Mozart & the Mind, a series that crosses the boundaries of music, science, medicine, and technology.
4. A special focus on people with autism spectrum disorder. An Autism Professional Advisory Council consisting of key individuals from community autism organizations and academic experts assists with annual Mozart & the Mind festival, providing guidance, networking, and valuable insights into how to best include and encourage our Youth Orchestra students.
5. Uniting the community in shared experience through free concerts, open rehearsals, and outreach to students and underserved populations.
