With support from the California Art Council, Lunchtime Productions Inc. will continue to chart a way forward toward pre-pandemic class subscriptions and programming by employing guest and teaching artists to add and enhance program offerings, and in addition support salaried positions, and organizational operations.
Cafeteria Kids Theater (CKT) was formed in 2014 as an educational theater program to engage, encourage and enrich the lives of children in Napa Valley through the performing arts. Since its formation, CKT has grown to include full scale musical productions, in-school residencies in both public and private schools in Napa Valley, after school classes, acting workshops, holiday workshops, and a variety of summer camps. These offerings are geared towards Napa Valley children ranging from ages 3 – 18. CKT’s Founding Directors are also adjunct faculty members at the Napa Valley College. This relationship offers NVC’s theater students the opportunity to audition for the full-scale production as part of their curriculum. Developing a cast which includes NVC students performing alongside CKT actors produces a rich multi-age learning environment and encourages strong collaboration while fostering leadership, caring, empathy, and creativity. At the onset of the March 2020 quarantine, CKT quickly acclimated to Zoom to help pivot from in-person programs to original, virtual classes, workshops, and camps. In order to meet the vital needs of young people to express themselves creatively and stay connected to one another during virtual learning, CKT offered In-school residencies, as well as After-school programming. Curriculum included playmaking, storytelling, specialized craft kits, traditional theater games, working with scripts, and musical theater. From April of 2020 to June of 2021, CKT recorded and edited over 40 original performances for audiences and families around the country. This included multiple live streams of performances and shows on multiple streaming platforms. CKT is currently planning on conducting all programming in person with classes and theatrical productions for ages 3-18. In-School residencies and After-School classes will be offered to students in Napa Valley include playmaking, storytelling, traditional theater games, working with a script, and musical theater.
