With support from the California Arts Council, LOS ANGELES JAZZ SOCIETY will add up to 20 underserved students to their off-campus jazz training program, the Bill Green Mentorship Program. Drawn from Los Angeles public high schools, these promising music students will receive ten weeks of free training in advanced music techniques from professional jazz musicians, individually and in group workshops, followed by a professional recording session and a performance in a commercial jazz club.
Jazz in Schools — A free program initiated in 1988 that brings the joy of jazz every year to 16,000 elementary school children who attend Los Angeles public schools. These children experience outstanding jazz artists in exciting, interactive live concerts and learn about jazz music — its instruments, styles, history, and artists.
Bill Green Mentorship Program — Introduced in 1998 to supplement the education of promising jazz students.
New Note — Inaugurated in 2013 to support emerging jazz composers by commissioning new works. The Society partners with the prestigious Angel City Jazz Festival each year to premier the new work.
