With support from the California Arts Council, Lenora Lee Dance will work with the Chinatown Community Development Center to produce and present “And the Community Will Rise”, a multimedia dance project which will include participatory workshops, interviews, a multimedia exhibition, and a series of 12 large-scale, multimedia, immersive performances activating the spaces inside and outside of the buildings, detailing the history of the Ping Yuen housing complex.
Lenora Lee Dance has served over 175,000 through: 1) An annual performance season featuring world premieres of its work. 2) Local performances. 3) Touring. 4) Civic engagement programs – workshops, residencies, lectures, panels. 5) Museum and Gallery installations. 6) Films.
It integrates contemporary dance, film, music, text, and research, and weaves together multiple artistic disciplines. It strives to generate artistic work that engages deeply the connections between individuals, community and collective memory, through creative processes, research, and public involvement.
