Founded on the belief that all food has power and all people have potential, KFG’s mission is to break the cycle of poverty, hunger, and food waste through innovative programs in workforce training, healthy meal production, and social enterprise. KFG’s culinary arts apprenticeship program equips individuals labeled as “unemployable” with the knife skills and life skills they need to launch meaningful careers, move forward in life, and make a positive impact on their communities. Individuals reentering from incarceration, homelessness, and foster-care gain valuable workforce and life skills and are provided the opportunity to express their creativity, culture, and sense of self through cooking and food. Through a proven apprenticeship model, KFG trains students in culinary arts and workforce readiness, places them into jobs, and then tracks, mentors, and supports them during employment to ensure they remain employed and become self-sufficient.
