With support from the California Arts Council, INNERCITY PERFORMING ARTS will be able to maintain our ZOOM technology staff, studio rent, and internet expenses that allow us to continue to deliver thigh quality performing arts training and performances to high risk youth in inner city Los Angeles.
Our core programs include:1) Shakespeare performances using all ages of youth, film making such as IAGO and They Call Us The N Word (both of which have trailers on our website) a podcast titled “Good Marrow” and theater experiences with pre school age youth using parts of The Lion King. Our programs are comprehensive and included school assistance, food and housing when needed, and working with adjudicated youth and youth authorities. Since Covid 19 we have adjusted our programs to a ZOOM format. We have been able to continue service delivery through our partnership with actor , Val Kilmer , at his HelMel Studio where we have access to video equipment to continue our programs. In addition we teach scenery creation, costuming, and all backstage skills all of which become future career pathways for young people who do not see their way out of their current circumstances. (living in high crime areas, living below the poverty rate, lack of access to food security, and not clear path to higher education) Our programs have won many awards including a BAFTA and recognition from Presideent Obama.
