With support from the California Arts Council, HEALING MUSES will provide professional quality, live harp music to support patient care and recovery and staff and family well-being in hospitals, cancer centers, and children’s palliative care centers in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.
Healing Muses presently employs three professional harpists. An engagement consists of a single harpist playing 2-hours of live music. Before COVID, harpists played weekly at Women’s Cancer Center of the East Bay (Pleasant Hill) for approximately 20 patients and 6 staff members, weekly at George Mark Children’s House for children’s palliative care (San Leandro) for approximately 10 children and 10 staff members and periodically for their Day of Remembrance for parents of children who had passed, and weekly at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (Martinez) for approximately 20 patients and 5 staff members plus numerous visitors and family members at each location. Healing Muses also offers weekly music tat the UCSF Bakar Precision Cancer Medical Building (Mission Bay) for approximately 30 patients and 3 staff members, and runs regular Arts for Recovery programs through UCSF for approximately 25 attendees per program. During COVID, harpists switched to livestream and video, and have only recently been able to return to live engagements.
