Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Groundwork Arts will provide 10 months of in-person art instruction and online videos that will increase arts access, develop artistic abilities, promote life skills and support the social and emotional needs of 2500+ students at 11 rural and low-income elementary schools.

Organization Summary

Groundwork Arts core programs and services include:

ARTISTS IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM
We provide elementary students and teachers with in-person instruction by local artists for one-hour classes over the entire school year. Through the guidance of our dedicated teaching artists, students experience a range of 2D and 3D media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, textiles, and mixed media. These classes are supplemented by online videos that offer a behind-the-scenes look at local artists and instructional art projects inspired by those artists.

AFTER ART SCHOOL RESIDENCIES
After School Art classes are offered to elementary school sites once a week for one to two hours per class for eight weeks. Professional practicing artists who specialize in a variety of arts forms, guide students through a deep exploration of an artform in their area of expertise. These artists provide an in-depth knowledge that is generally inaccessible for K12 teachers.
