With support from the California Arts Council, Gay Freedom Band of Los Angeles will pay the monthly stipends for our Artistic Director and Assistant Artistic Director, rent for our rehearsal space, and rent for our instrument and equipment storage space.
GFBLA’s core program is the ninety-member concert band, which puts on two concerts per year in addition to several performances at parades and other events serving the LGBTQ+ community. A few of our recent accomplishments include our 40th anniversary concert where we collaborated with world-renowned artists such as Donald Perry, Jadine Louie, and Dean McDowell and local LGBTQ+ choir West Coast Singers, a concert entitled “The Great Outdoors” consisting of music inspired by travel, and a concert entitled “Family Album 2” which featured music from LGBTQ+ composers. GFBLA also performed at the “Models of Pride” event at the LA LGBT Center.
In addition to the concert band, GFBLA has a marching band that plays at the annual LA Pride Parade and other area pride parades.
