Project Description

It is El Teatro Campesino’s mission to make teatro a creator of vibrant community. Our primary purposes are: 1.) To create, produce, and/or present popular, professional theater that artistically integrates elements of music, theater and dance; 2.) To continue the organic evolution of our “campesino” aesthetic, rooted, from the beginning, in the indigenous culture of Mexican farm workers and having grown to encompass a vision of the world that correlates urban and rural realities, serving as a cross cultural bridge between Chicano and other ethnic and cultural groups that formulate the fabric of our new American Society; and 3.) To provide a unique institution in a rural setting for gifted, aspiring artists, be they from large urban areas, small towns, or farm labor camps, to train, work and develop professional skills in the performing arts.
