Project Description

With support from CAC, The Contemporary Jewish Museum will provide San Francisco public school students (grades K-12) with access to free museum tours coupled with pre- and post-visit engagement. These school tours and associated activities focus on the museum’s rotating exhibitions that share Jewish experiences and perspectives.

Organization Summary

Since its founding in 1984, The CJM has established itself as one of the Bay Area’s most distinguished and innovative cultural institutions where visitors can connect through shared experiences with the arts. We present exhibitions and education programs that are timely, relevant, and representative of the highest levels of artistic achievement and scholarship. In 2018, The CJM celebrated ten years in its landmark Daniel Libeskind-designed building which amplifies the organization’s mission. Exhibitions offer multiple entry points, putting Jewish themes at the center of shared human experience by drawing on popular culture, folklore, and secular Jewish life as well as religious traditions. Engaging, hands-on programs encourage audiences to become culture creators themselves through interactions with artists, works of art, and other participants. The CJM’s K-12 School and Teacher Programs take a holistic approach to arts education in partnership with Bay Area schools and artists.
