Project Description

Center Stage Productions (CSP) was started in 2004 by six women in San Diego County who wanted to make an impact on the accessibility of youth theater by changing the way shows were cast. They believed in an ethical and impartial casting process that gave equal opportunity to every performer. Their commitment to fairness and equal treatment has turned into 3 guiding principles that form our mission and guide the work we do every day.
1. To continue our long history of non-traditional casting that gives equal opportunity to every gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, religion, race and ethnicity.
2. Anyone who wants to perform can; we do not make cuts.
3. Every request for tuition aid is granted.

Our Organization’s goals are to:
1. Continue to improve the accessibility and inclusivity of our programming as our understanding deepens.
2. Improve students’ overall sense of social and emotional well-being.
3. Provide a safe social space for young people to connect with their peers and build important social skills.
4. Provide project employment to professional artists, teachers and musicians in San Diego County.
5. Keep ticket prices affordable.
6. Produce professional-quality theater in San Diego County that serves local audiences.
7. Foster an appreciation for American Broadway musical theater.

We value:
1. Our community, both the theater community and our neighborhoods.
2. Inclusion, it is the lodestar that guides our work.
3. Excellence in performing arts education and service.
4. Integrity in our relationships and how we conduct business.
5. Safety for the physical, social and emotional well-being of our students, staff and volunteers.
