With support from the California Arts Council, Center for Community Arts will deepen partnerships with 3 public schools in Concord and Walnut Creek, expanding its after school arts programs to reach up to 160 mostly low-income students in grades 1-8. In each of 8, 15-session residencies, students will focus on a single discipline (vs. 2 the previous years) to enable more in-depth skill-building and deeper engagement in the creative process, and will share their learning in a culminating event.
In addition to standalone and sequential classes and workshops, performances, preschools, camps and exhibitions at our four locations, Center for Community Arts offers programming at community centers and local schools that foster artistic development, engagement, and connection for those who can’t afford our center-based programs. Current community program partners include Trinity Center (serving homeless and low-income adults), Life Steps Foundation, two local school districts, and arts residencies serving special needs schools through the Contra County Office of Education.
