Project Description

BAMP’s artistically rigorous music ensembles paired with social-emotional learning provide opportunities where all kids—regardless of circumstances—can thrive socially and academically through music education that promotes creative expression, teamwork, discipline, and social responsibility. BAMP has nearly 10 years of proven success. BAMP has grown to annually reach over 130-150 students (ages 5-18) in socio-economically and culturally diverse communities through Alameda and Oakland.

Our deep collaboration with schools has allowed BAMP to develop a curriculum that powerfully aligns the arts with school priorities and utilizes an inquiry-based pedagogy that puts students at the center of their own learning. Whether it’s in choir, string ensemble or composition, students are encouraged to actively collaborate with teaching artists to create their own unique, creative and adaptable learning environment. Each class becomes a team — designed to support and encourage one another.

We are proud to have an exceptional, diverse and multilingual teaching roster, reflective of the Alameda and Oakland communities we serve. Our team has varied teaching and performance backgrounds that inform their ability to help students dive into self-reflective music-making experiences and encourage self-expression in class and with frequent performance opportunities. BAMP teaching artists have been a part of a powerful network of caring adults who collaborate to ensure each student receives the support they need.
