Project Description

The mission of The Advot Project (Advot) is to prepare youth for success by teaching them relationship and communication skills through the arts Our interactive programs empower young people to express their goals, needs, desires and fears in order to become self-advocates, so that they can reach their individual potential. “Advot” means ripples in Hebrew. We aim to initiate ripples of change, creating a world of equality and justice.

The arts are powerful tools for developing critical thinking skills, fostering accountability, and building self confidence, perseverance, and discipline. While our foundation is theater/performing arts, we teach using a variety of arts exercises to give students opportunities to explore multiple means of expression; where one young person may find their voice on stage, another might gravitate towards drawing or painting. The arts allow students to not simply express themselves, but take on personas, explore other perspectives, and begin to trust their instincts- there are no “right or wrong answers” in the arts; participants in Advot programs are free to take calculated risks, explore, play, and most importantly, learn and change.
