Project Description
With the support from the California Arts Council, A Step Beyond (ASB) will be able to provide its ballet and contemporary dance program for 4th and 5th year participants in the 2019-20 program year, and in a more general or global sense, the support of the Council’s support will facilitate ASB’s continued expansion in the program’s 6th year, as it moves toward reaching a capacity to serve 350 children and youth in 2022, when the program’s first cohort will enter their last year of high school.
Organization Summary
A Step Beyond (ASB) is a creative after-school youth development program built around a curriculum of dance education and performance. All participants, who enter the program in 3rd or 4th grade, engage in dance, receive academic tutoring and other assistance as necessary or desired, participate in support groups, and have access to individual and family counseling and limited case management services. ASB also offers college preparatory activities once participants reach the 7th grade, and operates a parent council.
