With support from the California Arts Council, A Noise Within will produce a free after-school theatre arts program at two middle school sites in the Monrovia School District. The program includes eight workshops taught by Teaching Artists and culminating in a student performance of a Shakespeare play, and free tickets for participating students and their parents to see a professional production of the same play at A Noise Within.
In a typical season, ANW presents over 160 performances of six classic plays, serving 54,000 patrons. ANW has been recognized with awards by theatre, arts, and business organizations for the quality of our productions, entrepreneurialism, and contributions to the cultural life of Los Angeles. One third of our budget is for work on educational programs such as student matinees and workshops. Our Equity Diversity Inclusion and Accessibility policy is essential for our organization.
ANW presents enduring works that speak to the human condition. Universal stories, retold by a representative cast, help people bridge the socio-political realities that divide us. We invite our community to build dialogue through post-show talk balks, readings and lectures. We are a professional resident company employing union actors and led by a woman of color. Serving students is a central tenet of our mission, and our Education Program serves 18,000 students, teachers, and schools each year. We distribute between 500 & 1,000 free tickets for each production and offer 2 ‘pay what you choose’, 2 hearing impaired, 1
sensory friendly’ and 1 audio description performance for each production. We have community talkback, cast q&a’s and other events to welcome our community.
