Teaching Artist

Description

As a Quinteto Latino Teaching Artist, you participate in a teaching residency with a specific school, after-school program, or community based organization and teach students the fundamentals of music (with and without instruments) in preparation for a live performance, and lead performance reflection and learning after the live performance.

Teaching residencies vary in length and grade-level, but typically span 1-10 weeks and serve grades K-8. Classes are usually taught Monday – Friday during the school day or after school. As a Teaching Artist, you will:
● Receive overview training in Quinteto Latino’s philosophy and approach to classroom instruction. (QL lesson plans are available to you for reference.)
● Engage your class with age and grade-level appropriate facilitation.
● Coordinate with Quinteto Latino staff to determine residency schedule in a timely manner.
● Arrive to your school/community site on-time.
● Represent Quinteto Latino’s core values.
● Foster and maintain positive working relationships with students, teachers, and school administrators.
● Travel independently to schools and community sites in the mid-peninsula region. If traveling by car, must have appropriate auto insurance coverage, and a valid California Driver’s license.
● [If applicable] Brass coaching at the middle school level.

 

What you need:
● 3+ years as a musician
● 3+ year experience working and/or volunteering with children in grades K-8
● 2+ years experience teaching children in grades K-8
● Ability to travel to different school sites in the mid-peninsula region and arrive on time

Compensation:
● Non-exempt, hourly part-time position. Pay range is $50-$75 per instructional hour, commensurate with experience and $50 per hour for training and planning time.
