The Battery is San Francisco’s unique modern-era private social club. The Battery houses seven bars and casual, yet stellar dining rooms serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Spa, steam rooms, gym, library, green room, garden, private and Member event spaces, and breathtaking views of San Francisco add to the unique ambiance.

 

POSITION PROFILE

Under the direction of the Director of Programming, the Programming Manager oversees all aspects of Member Event operations. You will program and execute programs/events as well as complete various administrative tasks and other special projects as needed. The Member Events Department produces and hosts a wide-variety of events including live shows, DJs, Comedy, Films, Lectures, Wine and Spirit Tastings, Family, Holiday, Special and Sporting Events both on and off property.

 

This is a full time position and the working hours will vary depending on the needs of the operations, including nights and weekends when applicable. There are anywhere from 5-8 events taking place per week. Work related duties must be done onsite.

 

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

? Event Operations:

o Manage onsite events along with other Programming Department Staff.

o Source, book, and execute onsite events such as book talks, cultural programming, etc.

o Establish and maintain strong relationships with Presenters or Artists that come to present at The Battery.

o Keep the Director of Programming fully informed of all matters that occur during events.

o Aid in the conceptualizing and brainstorming of new events and large parties including Halloween, New Year’s, Camp Battery, Bedlam and other special events with the Director of Programming.

? Department & Inter-department Operations:

o Assist the Director of Programming in keeping track of all information in the Master Events Document, etc.

o Assist in keeping all department costs at or below budget.

o Ensure effective interdepartmental communication via daily briefings, written communication, and other scheduled meetings.

o Attend weekly BEO meetings and lead when necessary.

o Assist in creating furniture movement tasks and layouts for house people.

o Provide research and production assistance for all special events. Keep track of special event budgets and hire vendors, performers, contractors, order/rent special materials/equipment etc. as directed.

? Community Management:

o Oversee Societies of The Battery

? Maintain communication with Society chairs.

? Review Society programming dates within overall programming.

? Answer Member questions related to Societies.

? Conduct quarterly meetings and communicate metrics of success.

o Update all internal records of past vendors and event recaps.

? Marketing & Communications:

o Write copy for the Events page. Post events to the website and send event invites/messages through the backend admin site.

o Review copy on event postings, marketing materials, and other external facing communications.

o Create event signage for individual spaces, the Front Desk, directional, and special update messaging when needed.

o Aid in business development initiatives when called upon by other outlets.

? Ensure that standard, policies and procedures of The Battery are maintained

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

? Take direction well; understand and follow written and verbal instructions.

? Can creatively solve problems and effectively implement solutions.

? Good time management skills; can manage and complete priorities and workflow, be detail-oriented, and work with a sense of urgency.

? Ability to learn and perform in a fast-paced environment.

? Ability to work both independently and in a team environment and able to handle multiple tasks.

? Love of music and culture and familiarity with all aspects of current trends highly desired!

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Must have and be able to do all of the following:

? College degree or equivalent.

? Minimum 3-4 years of event planning/production and managing staff

? Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.

? Basic math and computer skills.

? Must be able to deal with members and Presenters/ Artists in a professional manner while maintaining a composed demeanor in high stress situations.

? Familiarity in creating detailed production schedules

? Flexibility with schedule: Evenings, weekends and holidays.

? Ability to work up to 40+ hours per week in a full-time position.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

You must the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations and be able to meet the following requirements:

? Must be able to maneuver through all areas of the property.

? Heavy member/presenter contact is required.

? Must be able to tolerate varying noise levels, temperature, and illumination and air quality.

? Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

? Requires normal sense or smell, taste, touch and sound.

? Must be able to respond to visual or aural cues.

? Continuously or periodically bend, twist, lean, lift, push, pull, kneel, bend, walk, stand, and/or sit up to 8+ hours per shift.

? Lift up to 50 pounds in order to perform the essential functions.

? Work in a stressful environment and stressful situations.

? Work in an environment where the climate constantly changes.

 

Salary Range: $90,000 – $100,000

Shift: Schedule changes weekly which include nights and weekend as required.
