Deputy Director (Staff Services Manager III) – Telework Option

Description

This position is Hybrid and as an Executive is eligible for telework up to two days a week and required to report to the Sacramento office three days a week; Tuesday-Thursday or as needed/required in accordance with CAC’s Telework Policy. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Under the general direction of the Chief Deputy Director (CDD), and indirectly from the Executive Director (ED), the Deputy Director (DD) serves as a key member of the Executive Team providing high-level strategic and policy advice to advance the complex internal operations and functions of the agency.

The DD oversees and is responsible for management of all the internal functions of the agency, serving as the chief financial officer, chief of staff, and chief compliance officer coordinating regulatory, administrative, and business operations. In addition, the DD co-develops and oversees the successful development and implementation of the strategic plan, ways of working, annual work plans, and other core functions as assigned by the Chief Deputy Director and Executive Director.

  • 1. Demonstrated experience to lead and manage complex operations from concept to execution, implementing quality management principles where appropriate, and making recommendations and continuous improvement to systems and processes. How did you ensure alignment with organizational goals, compliance with policies, and effective team collaboration?
  • 2. Experience representing an organization, or on broad executive-level, with high-level and elected officials of federal, state and local governments, legislature, news media and the general public. Include how you managed sensitive or high-stakes situations, such as presenting recommendations or resolving escalations.
  • 3. Describe your experience applying leadership practices to develop collaborative working relationships with external partners, including control agencies, federal government, state and local entities and community-based organizations.
  • 4. Experience using strong management and leadership skills, particularly in the area of state agency budget management, internal operations and controls and communications, and policy development and the demonstrated ability to facilitate the establishment of priorities.
  • 5. Ability to communicate with others as demonstrated by strong written and verbal communications skills; strong negotiating skills; and particularly the ability to represent the Department effectively before a wide range of audiences, including the State Legislature, local government, the public or other similar body.
