  • Base pay range: $41-$52/hour DOE, plus benefits, bonuses, overtime and profit-sharing potentials

About the role:

Atthowe is looking for a Crew Manager – a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on art services technician and leader with an expert skill set. This will be someone who will continue to build and lead our team of art handlers, someone who will motivate and train others, and provide impeccable customer service with museum quality art installation services for both private and public domains.  This person will report to the Head of Logistics and will help develop and implement training programs that assess and strengthen the skillsets of each crew member. They will work closely with the Head of Special Projects, Head of Packing and Crating, project managers, and schedulers to allocate properly trained crew and resources for multiple simultaneous jobs, all with competing demands and requirements of expertise.  This is an exciting time to join our employee-owned cooperative and become part of its continued growth as an unparalleled leader in the art services field.

Core Responsibilities of the Crew Manager:

  • Work with management on the hiring, training, evaluation, and management of crew, setting clear expectations for quality of work
  • Consult on the schedule and allocation of crew resources, prioritizing efficiency, safety, quality of service, and cross-departmental coordination
  • Possess and continually improve knowledge of industry and museum art-handling standards as well as the typical parties and agreements involved
  • Effectively support team cohesion, cultivating a culture of accountability, cooperative problem solving, and inclusivity
  • As needed, work with crew at jobsites, participating in the hands-on lifting and manipulation of artworks for their transportation, packing, crating, installation, storage, and display
  • Manage and stock crew tool kits in consultation with head technicians and management, prioritizing sustainability, quality, and cost-savings when ordering supplies
  • Perform other hands-on art handling and/or supervisory tasks as needed

  • Maintain, clean, and safe-guard all tools, trucks, equipment, and other company property, both personal and shared
  • Professionally represent the company in the community, building effective relationships with clients and other stakeholders

Physical Demands:

  • Desk work and field work
  • Regular use of mobile phone required for workflow
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, sit, bend, lift, and use hands, sometimes for extended periods of time
  • Regularly use tools and potentially work on boom-lifts, scissor lifts or ladders
  • Regularly be in truck cab and must exhibit physical agility to enter and exit trucks and/or trailers
  • Exposed to outside weather conditions
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 60lbs unassisted and up to 300lbs with assistance of mechanical equipment

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of art handling and packing experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of management/coordinator experience
  • Possess a valid California driver’s license and a clean driving record at the time of, and for the duration of employment
  • Complete and pass STA (Security Threat Assessment) application and verification
  • Strong understanding of museum- and industry-standard art handling protocols, methods, and materials
  • Solid knowledge of MS365 applications, Google apps, productivity tools (Asana), or similar, etc.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule as weekend, overtime, overnight, out of town, and holiday work may be necessary
