Background
YMCO is committed to engaging Bay Area students in grades 4-12 from under-resourced families in YMCO’s free, proven, three-part program of vocal and instrumental musical training, academic support, and citizenship, drawing on students’ musical talents to guide them to success in higher education and meaningful professional careers.   
 
Job Summary
The Development Manager’s primary responsibility is to plan and executive a program to cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and funders to YMCO to support the educational programs and mission.

The Development Manager is a frontline fundraiser who will work with a range of donors, individual and institutional, to build the organization’s activities and systems to support a thriving philanthropic program. The Development Manager will work closely with the Finance & Operations Manager and President & Artistic Director.

Reports to the President & Artistic Director

Responsibilities
– Develop, manage, execute, and evaluate strategies for YMCO’s philanthropic programs.
– Work collaboratively with the President & Artistic Director, Finance & Operation Manager, the Board of Directors, YMCO staff, the faculty, alums, and parents to fulfill philanthropic goals and objectives.
– Carefully steward, renew, and upgrade current donors and funders, demonstrating to them the impact of their gifts.
– Identify new donors and funder prospects and develop individualized strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
– Manage the overall development operations, including the donor database and online giving technologies, to ensure that gifts are processed and acknowledged appropriately, and provide needed reports and analysis.
– Create and execute donor communications, including event invitations, newsletters, emails, and other connection opportunities.
– Manage revenue and expense budgets and handle regular reconciliations with finance.
– Use a variety of techniques and approaches to build relationships with and solicit donors.
– Organize volunteers and Board Members to work effectively with staff to build donor relationships.
– Create and execute fundraising and cultivation events for donors and prospects.
– Enhance the visibility of the organization in the community and represent the organization at key community and school-based events.
– Work with the President & Artistic Director, and Finance & Operations Manager to build an alum relations program that enhances philanthropic and outreach activities.
– Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
 
Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
– 5–7 years of experience working in all areas of fund development, preferably with experience in educational institutions or performing arts organizations.
– Expertise in working with individual and major donors, foundations and corporate supporters, and government agencies.
– Passion for working with youth through YMCO’s mission.
– Experienced with developing, managing, and reporting on budgets.
– Demonstrated success in developing and implementing short- and long-term activities measured against clear goals and objectives.
– Excellent project management skills and comfortability in managing multiple projects with different timelines.
– Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
– Experience in budget management and data analysis.
– Expertise in planning and producing successful cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising events.
– Experience working with Boards, volunteers, and donors.
– Committed to being a team-player, communicative, and collaborative
– Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and online tools, specifically Google Suite.
 
 
Additional Requirements
Position is subject to a background check.
 
 
Compensation
This position typically is 50% time (20 hours a week).
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with responsibilities and experience, with a salary range of $65,000-85,000 (50% time).
