POSITION:
Director, Education Programs

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides daily oversight of the operational, fiscal, technical, marketing, producing, and programming aspects of all projects related to the education department at Segerstrom Center for the Arts as directed by the Vice President, Education. 

This is a full-time arts administration position located in Costa Mesa, CA. The role is in-person 4 days a week with 1 day a week remote.  Local candidates are encouraged to apply – relocation assistance unavailable.  Salary range: $70,000-$75,000 a year.  
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:*

  • Provide leadership and bears primary programmatic oversight of programs and events related to the Center’s Education Department.
  • Assist Vice President with implementation, evaluation, reporting, and quality control of programs, activities, and events
  • Direct supervision of Education staff as assigned
  • Manage department budget through the guidance of the Vice President
  • Oversee fiscal operations, accountability, and tracking of programs and events implemented by the education department
  • Represent the Center regionally and nationally at various events and conferences
  • Oversee the Center’s Family Series, On Stage at the Center Series, and Sensory-Friendly Series programming in collaboration with the Senior Manager, Education Programs
  • Develop Education program marketing strategies and materials in collaboration with the Center’s Marketing department
  • Oversee production of the annual Arts Teach Artist Showcase in partnership with the Arts Teach staff
  • Serve on various interdepartmental and collaborative committees as appropriate and oversees the Center’s Audience Engagement activities
  • Engage donor and volunteer groups on behalf of the Education department when assigned
  • Provide leadership on accessibility, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Sensory-Friendly experience initiatives
  • Lead the Center’s Docent programming
  • Participate in planning and evaluation meetings as needed
  • Serve as a liaison between the Center and its regional, national, and international partners
    *- Other duties may be assigned in support of departmental and institutional goals

ESSENTIAL SKILLS and PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required and a combination of experience and/or certification in arts administration. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong intra/interpersonal skills and an authentic, collaborative approach to develop and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage projects of varying complexity calmly, efficiently, and professionally.
  • Capability to effectively make and communicate leadership decisions both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize, motivate, inspire, and supervise colleagues, specialized personnel, volunteers, educators, artists, and students.
  • Experience and training or a good understanding of theater production is essential
  • Capacity to manage many multi-dimensional tasks simultaneously, professionally, and efficiently.
  • Capacity to plan, implement, manage, analyze and report on tasks, programs, and events effectively and efficiently.
  • Must be able to delegate while assuring a level of quality expected by the organization.
  • Ability to interpret and operationalize organizational and professional policies. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:*

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, and write by hand
  • Possess manual dexterity to finger, handle, and feel
  • Regularly walk in the performance of duties
  • Frequently stand, reach, stoop, kneel and crouch
  • Ability to speak clearly with sufficient hearing to communicate effectively
  • Periodically lift and move up to 15 pounds

WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions
  • Noise level is usually quiet, well-lit, and temperature-controlled office environment
  • In-person office hours 4 days a week with 1 day remote work.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
