With support from the California Arts Council, the East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse will work with consultant Mindy Craig of BluePoint Planning to develop a strategic plan for the organization, including fundraising strategies to keep the organization financially viable and a 5-year “roadmap” to help usher the East Bay Depot sustainably into the future. Additionally, the consultant will assist in the search for and transition to a new Executive Director.
Now in its 46th year, the East Bay Depot accepts donations of of new and used art supplies, educational materials and household items, and redistributes them at low-or-no-cost to artists, teachers and community members at our retail store in Oakland. Our resource center and programs promote the ecological benefits of repurposing materials to give them new life as works of art or useful items.
Current programs include the Green Educator Program, supplying teachers with free classroom and art supplies and offering free monthly art workshops; Special Events, sending professional artists to community fairs, events and schools to teach art projects using reused materials; and the Estate Reuse Program, providing an ecologically responsible method of donating and repurposing household goods. Past programs provided art curriculum in public schools, and curbside bulky waste reuse in two counties.
The Depot serves ~4,000 teachers, 100,000 school children and 60,000 customers yearly.
