Soorya Foundation for performing arts was founded
-To preserve, protect and propagate Indian Traditional Performing Arts through dance and music festivals, performances, dance productions, lecture demonstrations and master classes.
-To produce Indian dance productions inspired by ancient Indian women legends, and present it with a contemporary treatment,
-To create performing opportunities for young dancers at our Youth Fest
-To provide scholarships to economically disadvantaged students to study Indian dance.

Soorya foundation was specifically created to provide a paid platform for Bharathanatyam (and other Indian classical dances) in the USA. This South Indian traditional dance is a highly specialized artform. Its music, technique, story, and presentation have seasoned over time to produce an excellent journey of the psyche into the realm of beauty and peace. The mind-body-soul interrelation of Indian classical dances requires a dancer to study this art arduously over several years and demands dedication, focus, and vigorous practice. Our annual youth fest features such award-winning young dancers who have studied this art here in the US.

Culture is the backbone of any healthy society. With a venerated goal to spread and share the performing arts of India to an international audience in LA, we curate our dance festivals in a culturally vibrant and ethnically diverse neighborhoods. Ms. Mohan with her years of experience as a curator in LA, NJ, GA and India uses this unique expertise to bring to the people of LA unique Indian Classical dance festivals and productions. Our foundation hosts several events virtually and physically that bring the community together. Through our partnership with our community members and organizations, we have connected successfully with the local crowds. We were one of the first dance foundations to host a virtual festival in April 2020 and provide paid platform to many dancers during COVID in 2020-21.
