Founded in 2003, Oakland-based DANCE ELIXIR supports and produces collaborative, multidisciplinary projects with local and international reach. DANCE ELIXIR is one of few organizations in the US that specifically presents experimental performance works from an Arab-American perspective; this is important work as it directly informs the mainstream narrative about the plurality of Arab existence in the US. Its relationship to the Arab populations is embedded in its founding. A Bay Area resident since 1997, Leyya Mona Tawil, the founder and director, is a first generation Palestinian-Syrian-American.

DANCE ELIXIR presents work throughout the Bay, US, and internationally. DANCE ELIXIR also operates TAC: Temescal Art Center, their space in Oakland, which operates as a venue for experimental arts and community practices. TAC generates earned income, provides space for DANCE ELIXIR developing work and performances, and grows audiences for new works. TAC serves 2000+ annually.
