POSITION SUMMARY:

As one of Southern California’s leading performing arts presenters, La Jolla Music Society (LJMS) contributes to San Diego’s cultural vitality year-round through a rich variety of programming, including classical, jazz, global roots, contemporary music, spoken word, and dance. In 2019, LJMS celebrated the opening of their permanent home, The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center (The Conrad), which has become a hub of cultural, educational and artistic events for the community. 

The Production Manager is responsible for the planning and implementation of production requirements for all LJMS performances both in The Conrad and in other San Diego venues. Performances include 50+ presented concerts during the Winter Season (October-June) and 20+ produced performances during LJMS’ internationally renowned chamber music festival, SummerFest (July-August), which engages over 80 artists for five weeks each summer. This key staff member ensures that the vision of LJMS’s board, officers, and audiences is brought to the stage with the highest degree of professionalism.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and administer all concert production activities for LJMS, including facility and equipment rental, staging requirements, and other logistical arrangements before, during and after productions.
• Coordinate with artist management and LJMS Programming department to ensure that artists’ requirements are understood and met.
• Advance the schedule and staging/personnel requirements for each concert with tour managers, musicians and agents.
• Hire, train, and manage performance of all production staff, including per-concert and seasonal stage managers. Supervise Production Coordinator, a newly created position in 2022.
• Schedule and supervise recording engineer(s) for any recorded concerts, as well as video direction/production/streaming staff as required. With the Technical Director, coordinate with IATSE (union) stagehands to satisfy stage requirements for load-ins, rehearsals, and concerts.
• Develop and distribute detailed production schedules for all concerts and rehearsals events with venue and LJMS staff.
• Oversee outside venue contracts and advance concert production requirements with the venue.
• Contract with vendors for rental/delivery/transfer/pickup of any required backline instruments and equipment.
• With Director of Theatre Operations, develop and monitor budgets for all production activities. With Programming department, ensure that artists’ needs are met within budget.
• Work with Artistic and Operations staff in future-season and long-range planning for LJMS; prepare budget projections as needed.
• Maintain proper records to include performance reports, YTD budget actuals, settlements, invoices, and executed contracts.
• Use ArtsVision database to organize relevant production information, equipment, and timelines.
• Maintain inventories of concert-specific property and supplies.
