The Resident Advisor is a twelve-month, part-time, live-in position that reports directly to the Assistant Manager of Residential Life and Residential Summer Programs This position includes administrative and on-call responsibilities, which include evenings, weekends and holidays.
Residency in the dormitory is a requirement of the position.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Residential life:
- Provide residential supervision and oversight for students.
- Participate in the on-call rotation weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Responsible for primary oversight of students residing in areas specifically assigned to the Student Resident Advisor.
- Create, promote, and attend both community building and educational programming for the Conservatory and Music Academy.
- Participate in RA training programs.
- Provide supervision for student activities both on and off campus, and participate in events as appropriate.
Crisis Intervention/ On-Call Rotation/ Student Conduct:
- Participates in Primary On-Call Rotation, providing 24/7 coverage during each shift.
- When On-call, maintain a 10-min response time.
- Performs bed-checks for Academy students, when on-call.
- Follow protocol when responding to incidents.
- Maintain awareness of safety and emergency procedures and respond to emergency/safety situations.
- Support the enforcement of residential policies.
- Provide appropriate and timely follow up to incidents.
- Serve as a college representative during non-business hours.
- Submit thorough incident reports in a timely manner.
Administrative Tasks:
- Office hours from 9am-5pm one day per week that corresponds with your PM on-call shift.
- Administrative tasks will be assigned each week depending upon the season and needs of the department.
- Other assigned duties.
Facility Management:
- Manage room condition reports during move in and move out.
- Conduct building walk through inspections during move in, move out, and breaks.
- Submit work orders in a timely manner.
- Work with facilities staff to resolve maintenance issues.
Staff Representation and Trainings:
- The Resident Assistant is expected to attend and actively participate in all trainings, meetings, and orientations for the position.
- Participate in the selection of students for leadership opportunities.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Attend one-on-one meetings with their reporting manager.
- Attend all departmental and cross-departmental sessions and workshops, as required.
- Assist in safety drills and training.
Education and/or Experience Requirements
- Ability to work with various departments of the School, including Security, Engineering, Janitorial, Café, Mailroom, etc.
- Ability to function under pressure in crisis or emergency situations.
- CPR/AED certification required (may become certified after being hired).
- Prior to hire, must pass an appropriate background check to be employed by the Colburn School.
