The Associate Director of Exhibition Management is responsible for the administration,
coordination, and successful implementation of all operational aspects of the museum’s
exhibition program. This position provides managerial oversight for the museum’s exhibitions
and is the primary liaison to the Senior Director regarding all aspects of exhibition program
management. This position works closely with the museum’s curatorial, registration and
production departments to develop strategy, coordinate exhibition programs, and advance short
and long-term museum goals. The Associate Director drafts and oversees all exhibition and department general operating budgets, as well as tour expenses and reconciliation. Works cross-departmentally to plan and maintain the overall exhibition schedule at both of MOCA’s
facilities. Responsible for drafting and negotiating contracts related to MOCA organized exhibitions, individual contractors and touring exhibition agreements.
Essential Functions:
Plan, direct, control, implement, evaluate, monitor, and forecast the department general operating budget, all direct exhibition budgets at both museum facilities as well as tour expenses. With the Senior Director oversees budgetary management of the exhibition program, including overseeing monthly exhibition spending report and facilitates modifications as needed.
Proactively provide analysis and information of program management to the Senior Director of Exhibitions and Collections.
Collaborates with the Senior Director to execute a distinctive and dynamic exhibition program that advances the Museum’s visibility and reputation and includes exhibitions that travel nationally and internationally.
Directs day-to-day operations and activities of the Exhibition Department.
Maintains the overall exhibition schedule for both museum facilities as well as the schedules of MOCA exhibitions while on tour. Oversees the dissemination of exhibition schedules.
Direct and project-manage an ongoing, long-range planning process for the exhibition schedule at both museum facilities; Create greater efficiencies and sustainable systems across the process of exhibition planning.
Work closely with Registration, Curatorial, Exhibition Production, Security & Maintenance, and Visitor Engagement to effectively plan exhibitions.
Writes and negotiates exhibition and co-organization agreements between MOCA and other institutions, as well as contracts between MOCA and individual contractors inconsultation with organizing curator(s), registrar, exhibitions staff, and co-organizing museum.
Initiates and monitors the circulation and contract negotiations for all MOCA-organized exhibitions. Provides exhibition information to venues, including tour costs, installation requirements, and project descriptions.
Circulates exhibitions originated by MOCA or traveling to MOCA from other institution; Oversee MOCA’s tour solicitation and responses to tour proposals from other institutions.
Participates in the determination and solicitation of potential venues; Oversees
maintenance of tour solicitation database, including a record of past solicitations and potential future venues; Schedules exhibition dates with each venue and finalizes tour itinerary.
Represents the Exhibition Management Department on institutional teams as assigned and supervises department staff.
Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements:
Three to five years of relevant experience in leading and managing museum projects, including some relevant supervisory experience and budgeting experience, preferably in an art related non-profit organization.
Experience drafting and negotiating contracts.
Proven project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage shifting priorities on multiple projects.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, communicating effectively and proactively.
Experience managing and motivating team members to increase productivity and position knowledge.
Ability to work independently or as an effective, communicative team member.
Salary Range: $78,500 to $82,500
Physical Demands:
While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following:
sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions;
climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height. Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to visually inspect work. Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment is required. Heavy usage of computers and phones required.
